What is Myofunctional Therapy?
All in the name of whole body health, myofunctional therapy is a form of therapy that is patient specific, and based on improper oral habits and functions. Focusing specifically on the the muscles of the lower half of the face, mouth, tongue, upper throat, and neck; myofunctional therapy uses techniques and exercises to promote proper oral habits and functions through Neuromuscular Reprogramming.
When these muscles (tongue, facial, mouth, upper throat, and neck) are weakened or have been used and/or developed improperly, a myriad of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD’s) can occur. These OMD’s can result in significant health challenges for a person throughout their lives.
Once these habits are corrected and optimal oral function is achieved, airway-related complications can be resolved.
